Is speed-dating the right place to find serious guys?
Posted by Daniel B. on Dec. 22, 2009 in Dating and related topics
We're often asked if speed-dating is the right option if you're someone who really wants to meet their life-long partner. For example, you're 30-something, a smart and successful woman living in NYC, and you've been finding that dating, while sometimes fun, has been mostly just a waste of your time. You're thinking about going speed-dating, but you're concerned that the guys that go will be "players", or simply not appropriate for any number of reasons - not as well educated as you, not in a profession that is compatible with yours, and just not really a guy that you would feel happy introducing to your family. You don't want to meet a guy who makes 8 grammatical errors in every sentence, someone who thinks "lol" is a word, or (yikes!) someone still living at home.
So, here's the answer. Yes, at speed-dating, there will be guys that you will eliminate in the first 12 seconds of your six minute date. But this is the reason you go speed-dating, not the reason you don't go speed-dating. Because those six minutes will pass, and another guy will come to your table, and you'll notice he doesn't have food in his teeth and has dressed himself well, and you feel an immediate connection and look forward to your six minutes of chatting. Yes, these guys exist - in fact, there are a lot of them. And these guys, facing the same challenges as you, will be happy when he comes to your table, as he has also just come from a six minute date that was five minutes too long What's we're trying to say is, yes, it's tough out there, but speed-dating helps you navigate through to a real opportunity. On any one date, your chances of a match are pretty slim. But when you have 10 or more in one night, then on maybe on two or three dates you'll feel there's something worth pursuing. Good luck! |
