This is the second in our series of funny customer moments over the past six years.  As a reminder, we only have a handful of these from 20,000 customers, so don't feel discouraged about speed-dating!

The customer who "forgot" to select someone

This dates back about five years, when we were not so technologically advanced.  Back then, the customers had to hand in their forms with their selections at the end of the event, and the host would drop these forms to my apartment.  Early the next morning, I would get up, enter the selections, and the system would process the matches and send out e-mails.

On this evening, I received a call to my cell phone at 2am, waking me up.  Normally my phone would be off, but this time I'd forgotten.  I picked it up sleepily, expecting to hear my mother's voice from NZ telling me she wasn't sure what time it was in NYC.

ME- "Hello"

HIM- "Is this New York EasyDates?" (sounding drunk)

ME (groaning inwardly, after all, it's 2am, and I don't want to explain the concept of speed-dating to a drunk person) - "Yes, how can I help?"

HIM - "You have to help me.  Please, you need to help me".

ME- "OK, how can I help?"

HIM- "I'm out with Sarah.  She's great.  I met her at your event earlier.  I like her a lot.  In fact, I'm at a bar with her now.  We have just been making out in the corner"

ME - "That's great" (I'm wondering exactly when I'll be able to go back to sleep)

HIM - "But I didn't select her".

ME - "Oh.  Well, I'm sure that won't matter - you guys can exchange contact information in between making out"

HIM - "NO!  You don't understand.  I didn't pick her! And she asked me if I picked her, and I said 'Of course!'.  She said she liked me immediately, and picked me, and now she's going to find out I've been lying!"

ME - "Oh.  I see.  Well OK, sure, I'll add her to your selection list."

HIM - "Thank you, thank you, I really like this girl, and I don't want it to end before it has started"

ME -"I quite understand.  You're welcome - good night".

HIM - "Oh, one more thing.  Can you also pick Rebecca for me?  She left the bar a bit earlier, and I think I like her even more".
